Dubai Children’s Science Congress Concluded
At the inaugural session Mr. Manoj Kumar of Friends of KSSP, Director , Dubai Children’s Science Congress welcomed the gathering. He mentioned that such an event would not have been possible without the all out support of the Dubai Municipality.
Inaugurating the event, Mr. Hamdan Khalifa Al Shaer, Director of the Environment Department at Dubai Municipality congratulated the students and said that this unique programme will certainly help to improve the environmental awareness of the students and to exhibit their scientific creativity for solving societal and environmental issues. He told them : “ I would like to declare that you are all winners today. The enthusiasm and interest with each one of you participated in this programme is very promising and encouraging.”

Dr. KP Unnikrishnan explained the process through which the projects were implemented. It is the result of the commitment and hard work of the participant children and their mentors. We are really impressed by the variety of themes chosen and methodologies adopted for the implementation of the projects. Each team had worked intensely for more than six months to complete their respective projects.

In the morning session teams presented their projects before the experts of the academic committee and peer students using colourful posters and working and still models. There were a variety of interesting themes including a totally sustainable future city, production of electricity from the highways using rollers, study of air conditioning, internal pollution and solutions, reduction of e-waste, study of beach pollution in the city, school energy planning, recycling of waste and sewage water, just to mention a few.
In the afternoon session nine model project teams were invited to make detailed power point presentations and ‘defend’ their projects before experts and peers.
There were some attractive cultural presentations also by different teams.
At the award ceremony organised in the evening, Mr. T. M. Antony of FOKSSP welcomed the Director of Environment department, Dubai Municipality. He said that a long cherished dream of the FOKSSP has come true today. Mr. Humdan Al kahalifa al shaer gave away mementoes, medals and certificates to all the participant schools, students and mentors. Madam Shaikha al manssori , Awearness officer of Dubai municipality Environment department were also present in award function , Mr Hamdan appreciated the efforts made by the FOKSSP and congratulated all the participant children and their mentors heartily.
